doomscroll: to spend excessive time online scrolling through news or other content that makes one feel sad, anxious, angry, etc.

Yes, there’s a word for what folks addicted to social media do when all the news is bad.

They’re doomscrolling. They hate everything they see. They feel sick, stressed, and hopeless. They  can’t sleep. But they keep doing it because they just can’t quit.

I admit it. I’ve been there. A lot of you have, too. The last few weeks have been hell.

But then this happened:

And most of all, this:

 

Social media have gone all optimistic and happy and energized.

People are no longer doomscrolling.

They’re hopescrolling.
